わたしたちにヨルダン川を渡らせないでください
モーセに導かれたイスラエルの民は、約束の地カナンを目指して進んでいました。しかし、あるとき彼らの中の一部の人々がモーセに言いました。
「主がイスラエルの共同体の前で滅ぼしてくださった土地は、家畜に適した土地であり、僕どもは家畜を持っております。もし、わたしたちがあなたの恵みを得ますなら、この土地を所有地として、僕どもにお与えください。わたしたちにヨルダン川を渡らせないでください。」

彼らも「約束の地に行かなくても、途中で適当な場所が手に入ればそれでいい」と最初から思っていた訳ではなかったはずです。
しかし、目の前の現実ばかりに心が向いてしまった結果、彼らは「わたしたちにヨルダン川を渡らせないでください」（私は約束の地に行きたくありません）という気持ちになってしまったのです。
そして彼らのその価値観は、彼らだけでなく、彼らの同胞の心を挫かせるものでもあったと聖書は警告しています（同7節）。
私たちにもまた、それぞれになすべきことが山積する目の前の現実があります。それらを無視して生きることは出来ません。
しかし、それらの現実ばかりに心を奪われ、目指していた目的地を見失うことのないようにしたいものです。
目的地を忘れずにこの世を生き抜いた人々のことを聖書は次のように描写しています。
この人たちは皆、信仰を抱いて死にました。約束されたものを手に入れませんでしたが、はるかにそれを見て喜びの声をあげ、自分たちが地上ではよそ者であり、仮住まいの者であることを公に言い表したのです。

English Ver Do not make us cross the Jordan
The people of Israel were led by Moses and heading for the promised land Canaan. But some of them said to Moses.
“the land the LORD subdued before the people of Israel—are suitable for livestock, and your servants have livestock. 5 If we have found favor in your eyes,” they said, “let this land be given to your servants as our possession. Do not make us cross the Jordan.”
(Numbers 32:4,5 NIV)
They should not think in this way at the beginning. "I do not have to go to the promise land, if I can get a good land on the way."
But their hearts were too focused on the reality they were facing. As a result, they lost sight of their own destination.
And their values discouraged the hearts of their colleagues.
We also have the same failures as they do. We also face many obligations to do and difficulties to overcome.
We cannot ignore them. However, I do not want to lose sight of my destination. Even if I'm facing a lot of difficulties.
The Bible describes people who were living without forgetting the destination as follows.
All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.
